I had bought the 5" ventilated griot's plate from AG, so that is good. Too bad it will not take a 3" backing plate. Probably because the shroud/grip gets in the way.

Apparently you are doing this as a business and have a heavy hand :-) (just kidding on the hand, have to keep the pad rotating)

Brushless DC motors would work even better, but I assume they would drive up the cost of the machine.

From the video on the Griot's site, it looks as if the brushes are specific to the G9.

Actually no to either - I had to replace brushes on the first G6 I had. Unit would start and then slow down immediately (new polisher). Re-seated the existing brushes and no dice. Installed new ones and it's been working ever since. The second set of brushes was replaced just under normal use after ~ 3 years.

Very common. I have seen numerous power tools with bad brushes right out of the box.

Also, it is great maintenance to change your brushes every season (heavy usage) or at least every 3rd season (light use).

For as little as they cost, and how simple they are to swap out, why wait until they fail?

Sounds like the carbon on the initial brushes or the contact spring and power lead was defective. I also noted that the head has cut outs for a D handle like the G6, but I talk to Griot's and the person
told me that the unit is so ergonomic for a hand over the pad, that you don't need a D handle.

Yeah, I can't visualize Autogeek getting involved with trade ins, and that sort of stuff. They work around the clock just dealing with their own business orders and running their business.

But I'd guess Autogeek is one of Griots premier dealers, and you might see some sweet deals coming down the road, sales, kits, included perks such as bags, whatnot. Like with the Boss Machines there for awhile.

    Exactly.

And this is key to get more guys/ladies into machine polishing.

Like you say, 4 or 5 hundred bucks is kind of scary when you don't even really know (i.e never used) what you are buying.
