    Cleaning Aluminum Rims

What would you use for cleaning these rims? They are not coated but they are difficult to work on, especially the rear with the little rim and large rotors. I know I have a bunch of grime to clean off of them. Not really sure about polishing them.

Take a look at Meguiar's "Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner" (G-143).

It's for uncoated aluminum and alloy wheels, might be your answer.

    Re: Cleaning Aluminum Rims

You know, I have seen S100 products for years. A long long time ago I used it and didn't think it was all that great. I wonder if anything has changed?

I have used the other Meguiar's rim cleaner in the purple bottle. Maybe I can try the blue bottle. I have also seen the Flitz Preclean that Mike Phillips did on some rims that seemed like it worked fairly well.

    Re: Cleaning Aluminum Rims

It has served me well. I usually have 10-15 motorcycles at any given time and use S100 when any of them need to be washed. My bikes stay really clean so washing is a rarity though.

S100 is safe on all surfaces and water soluble so of course rinses away easily. They also make a wheel cleaner that is specific to the task so you may want to look into that. It is in the link I provided.

    Good luck and safe riding!

I love using Marvel Mystery Oil
First I apply a little to a terry cloth rag and start wiping, the gunk just melts off.
I follow with an APC then polish.

    Re: Cleaning Aluminum Rims

You can make a cheap and effective solution to clean your alloy rim.
Use a cup of vinegar to a cup of water. You can also use cream of tartar or lemon juice. Mix them and try using the mixture...

    Re: Cleaning Aluminum Rims

I've heard #0000 steel wool works magic on uncoated aluminum rims. I've always done it by hand with Blue Magic, because I went to The Citadel and assume that everything shiny is derived from pain.

Abandoning that line of thinking, I'm considering taking the #0000 steel wool out for a walk on the old '96 F-150 aluminum this weekend.
