Sportbike Detail w/ New Wolfgang Products

    First of all....

    I'm back on a bike!!

This is my 4th two wheel vehicle. I've had a Kawasaki 500r, a 500cc Scooter and a 2001 GSX-R750. I've learned my lessons throughout the years of riding and plan on babying this beast. The last time I rode the 750, I woke up in my bedroom looking like Two-Face and could barely remember my name.

Here she is! I took this picture a couple days after picking it up. I bought it from a private seller so it was pretty dusty, so I wiped it down with Ultima Waterless Wash and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Spritz Sealant for some protection. Although I knew I wanted to do a full correction on it as soon as I had time.

Here are some swirl mark shots in the sunlight >

Exhaust would need some polish >

The red tinted windscreen and headlight would need major attention >

With the detailing process planned out, I grabbed a few products to get started >

    • Detailers Pro Series Wheel Cleaner

    • CarPro Iron X

    • S100 Total Cycle Cleaner

    • BF Clay Lubricant and PolyClay Bar

    • Daytona Speed Master Wheel Brush & Jr.

    • Guzzler Waffle Weave Microfiber Drying Towel

*All other tools shown I did not end up using.

First I tackled the wheels. Detailers Pro Series Wheel Cleaner and a Daytona Speed Master Wheel Brush made cleaning a breeze.

The next product I used was S100's Total Cycle Cleaner. This was my first time using it and I was a little skeptical. I actually pulled out a couple buckets with Grit Guards just from habit, which I ended up not using. Washing my bike couldn't of been any easier >

I applied the cleaner one side at a time. It was so easy to use I did both sides twice. I just checked the 21oz aerosol can I used and it feels like a new can, so a single can should get you plenty of washes. As I rinsed the bike, I noticed the TCC had a yellow/brown tint. It was clearly doing a good job of removing dirt and contaminants.

Next up - CarPro Iron X. This would help dissolve any iron particles before claying >

For a vehicle with very small surface area, the paint actually bled more than I thought. So I was happy I used Iron X before a clay bar.

Time to clay with BF PolyClay and Lubricant >

So far so good! I now keep a Guzzler Microfiber Drying Towel in my backpack to wipe off any morning dew.

I pulled the bike into the Show Car Garage and inspected the paint >

It was obviously much cleaner, but there was plenty of room for improvement. With all of the new products released from Wolfgang this week, I thought this would be a good time to review some of their products.

For correction I opted for the Wolfgang Duo.

I started with a test spot and the least aggressive method (WG Finishing Glaze + 4 inch Tangerine) before determining I needed just a little more cut. So I stepped up to WG Total Swirl remover and a Cyan pad.

Before using a brand new stiff pad, I broke it in with a couple mists of Wolfgangs Pad Werks Polishing Pad Conditioner. The additional lubricity made the WG Duo effortless to use. Anything that makes polish residue easier to remove while increasing pad life is a winner in my book.

    Tape line of truth.

    Looking good..

I removed the seat to make polishing easier. Luckily my bike doesn't have any decals to mask off.

For tight areas, I just used some elbow grease. (WG TSR + White Flat Pad)

Moving along to the clear plastics, I used WG's Plastik Lens Cleaner and Plastik Lens Glaze.

Pictures don't do this justice. The clear plastics were a huge improvement.

Gtechniq C4 on any black trim or plastic.

Now I was really excited to try Wolfgangs Cockpit Trim Sealant. I actually prefer interior restorations. I've always enjoyed detailing interiors because there's nothing better than getting into a car with a spotless interior and that fresh detailed smell. In my case, protection, durability, looks, and feel topped my list of priorities.

My biggest concern was using something that felt greasy. The last thing I want while powering through the apex was my personal rear end losing traction.

Tape line of truth. I was impressed. I didn't realize the true condition of my seat until I saw how much darker WG Cockpit Trim Sealant made it. Because the bike sits outside, I'm happy to know it's now protected from harmful UV Rays. It dried to the touch and never stained my pants . After riding on the restored seat for a few days now, I can say it was never "greasy". Instead the seat feels softer and smoother, as if I had conditioned the vinyl.

I felt like it was Christmas morning when I grabbed a bottle of Wolfgang's Deep Gloss Liquid Seal off the shelf.

    Bling Bling

Fuzion time is my favorite time

I had tears in my eyes when I took this pic

    Before > After

I'll update this in a few days with a report on durability. I haven't mentioned how good everything I used smelled. On a bike it's hard to get a fragrance, but while cruising around town my bike emits the sweet smell of WG Fuzion and WG Deep Gloss Liquid Seal especially in the sun.

    My favorite parting shot.

    Thanks for viewing!

    looks purdy.

I dont know what it is about that color, or any burgundy/spice red/maroon or whatever. Its the most boring color when not perfect, but when the paint is perfect, the color just comes alive and is REALLY deep and pretty.

I agree. Before it was a mild red, and in bright light would even look pinkish. After polishing, I now get compliments left and right on the color. I'll never let it go back to its old pink ways lol.
