Depends on what kind of polish you are using. If your polish has a sealant or nuba in it, you'll be fine. If it's a pure polish, you run the risk of damanging the clear or paint from the elements especially uv rays.

The sun, dirt, bird crap, leaves, water, minerals, etc.

A polish, in detailing terms, is something that either cleans the paint or removes swirls leaving no protection behind.

However, if you are using Zaino, then they misuse the word polish, as several manufacturers do.

P21S makes a whole line of bike specific products, under the S100 name. Even a small travel kit.

I wax my motorcycle frequently especially the front fairing that get's hit with bugs and the tank. A waxed motorcycle is much easier to clean after a long ride.
