    And just to comment....

For those of you that are still working by hand, here's what I've been saying for DECADES on this topic.

It actually takes MORE skill, muscle, perspiration and experience to work by hand than it does to work by machine. When I say WORK BY HAND - the context isn't simply smearing a wax over the hood of a car.

By WORKING BY HAND - I mean - how you will MOVE YOUR HAND over the paint to ABRADE it and thus LEVEL it to remove swirls and scratches.

It's a LOT harder than everyone thinks. A lot harder. And even if you know how to do it correctly, the amount of muscle i.e. work and time it will take to do just one section of one panel is more than you think. As in more work and more time and this is just for a small section.

    I'll demonstrate this tomorrow.

For those of you that have already made the jump to purchasing and working by machine...

There are still situations where you need to know how to use your hand to abrade the paint to remove paint in a way that after you're done - the paint actually looks good. It's harder than most people know.

This would be for things like,

1: Removing scratches under door handles.

2: Removing swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation on thin panels or in tight or intricate areas where you cannot FIT a machine, not even a Nano Long Neck with a 1" pad.

3: Removing sanding marks next to edges ore raised body lines where to machine buff you would risk buffing through or BURNING THROUGH the paint.

4: Removing swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation on areas like louvers.

5: Under mirrors, around antennas, or any component on a painted body panel.

So tune it and see how it's done.

Makes me want to go to the hospital just thinking about this. Lol
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Perhaps maybe also talk about how using a product with good abrasive technology will impact results as well, esp. as compared to say something like Dad's old can of Simoniz ?

Copy that Captain. Working by hand in the old days and even more so in the new days is a TON of hard work.

Pack in 2009, shortly after coming to Autogeek from Meguiar's, I did some hand polishing on BLACK Lincoln and documented how long it took me to do half the hood by hand and the other half by machine. Also took before and after pictures. But no video showing how I actually used my hand to do the paint correction.

    Here's that write-up...

    Man versus Machine

It was a ton of work back then and it's a ton of work today to actually do any paint correction work by hand.

AND - 99.9% of the people that work by hand will NEVER get as good of results as they could of by using the simple Porter Cable that I'll be showing today.

That is a GREAT idea. I'll go one better - I have a product in my inventory a forum member sent me that he purchased elsewhere. Says right on the label that it can be used by hand or machine. I tested it after I received it and it absolutely cannot be used by hand or machine. Black paint documents this.
