    Greetings from Long Island, NY

    Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and am new to detailing as well. I am 43 and have a 2007 Kia Sportage which is a day to day car that I mostly park at the Long Island Rail Road parking lot near me, and yes, the car is next to railroad tracks Mon-Fri. I am working from home at the moment and finally decided to get a Griot's G9 and I plan on using Complete Compound, Complete Polish, and Best of Show wax as my first detail. I did a hand detail on this ride about two years ago using Adam's products. Since then I have just done standard two bucket washes, Adam's wheel cleaner and Adam's detail spray. Just waiting for some better weather for my first decon, wash, and detail with a machine. I will most likely ask a question or two before the big weekend though for now I will play around in the forum in effort to research some things myself.

    Best,

    John D.

    Welcome to AGO, John.

I am out on the East End of LI.

I was just out in Hempstead the other day for work.

The G9 is a great machine. Have you ordered it yet?

Oh cool. Yes, I ordered it as a kit which had the compound and best of show, along with the clay grip tool and some pads. I did go ahead and order the 5" orbital conversion kit and I now have 3 orange, 3 black, and 3 red pads. May pick up some more orange and this car has never been compound with a machine so fresh pads may help that first step go a bit smoother. This weekend may be a little too hot in my garage so I may get the 5" plate on there at least and make sure the machine actually works out of the box.

You did very well in your choices with Griot's, and especially the 5" plate and pads.

Definitely get the extra orange pads. The more the better.

And, everything you buy from Griot's has a lifetime warranty. Not just the polisher, but the pads, liquids, you name it.

Don't hesitate to ask anything here on AGO. This is the best and most friendly forum on the net.

    Cheers, John.

Wow, I knew their machines had the warranty but didn't know about the pads, liquids etc.
I will prob ask a few questions soon as I plan on making a bulleted list to print out for the garage when it is time. Nice to have someone here who is local and can understand my/our current weather conditions too
