Nanoskin/synthetic clay alternatives are a great time saver and can still be used if accidentally dropped on the ground.
For myself a typical coating job goes like this.
-Thorough rinse with power washer
-Chemical decon with Iron X
-Wash
-Mechanical decon with clay or Clay alternative
-Polish; either a 1 step or 2 step depending on budget/expectations
-Prep paint with Car Pro Eraser or comparable prep spray
-Install coating and cure with IR light
