Re: RUPES Paint Correction & Polishing Class with Jason Rose and Mike Phillips - December 2nd and 3rd - at Autogeek's Show Car Garage!

    ***Update***

Here's the training car for the Sunday class. This is a restored 1956 Continental that belongs to my friend Vince. He purchased this car from an Estate Sale. The car has been repainted using a basecoat/clearcoat paint system but it has extreme orange peel, a few runs and sags and also dirt-in-paint.

This is a 1956 Continental Mark II

Note it's NOT a Lincoln Continental. The Mark II technically wasn't a Lincoln because it came from the Continental Division, which was separate from Ford Motor's Ford, Mercury and Lincoln divisions.

More history on the 1956 Continental Mark II

    Basecoat/Clearcoat Finish

This 1956 Lincoln has a MODERN basecoat/clearcoat paint system.

Orange Peel - Surface Texture - Dirt in Paint

It also has a LOT of orange peel and surface texture as you can see by the pictures below...

The paint is also completely swirled-out...

    Here's a Frame-up Shot
Here I've framed up the hood looking from the backside with the hood in the raised position.

And here's what I want you to see. The massive orange peel in the finish. This is the same hood you see above only I've zoomed in to just the lights reflecting off the driver's side to document the orange peel.

    DIP

With the car outside in overcast skies you can easily see the orange peel and also DIP or Dirt-in-Paint.

Here's the same Palm Tree reflection in the picture above only I've zoomed-in to show the orange peel...

And here's a section cropped out of the original to show the extensive level of orange peel

Here you can see where some dirt particles landed in the paint and then dried, this is called DIP

And this is a close-up of orange peel...

The orange peel is throughout the finish - this is a thin section of paint just in front of the windshield...

The car is nicely restored, here's the engine compartment...

    Here's the interior...

The goal of the advanced class is to remove the orange peel, surface texture and dirt-in-paint and create a more flat and more perfect finish using the RUPES BigFoot Polishing System.

Hope to see you here for this unique opportunity with co-instructor for this class, Jason Rose from RUPES.

    Nice work guys.

This would be a very cool class to be at, & you just know there will be tonnes of information to take away with you. I say a "must do" class for anyone close enough to make it.

Wow! I do like a Lincoln. There's something kinda non-mainstream suave about them & this one is no different. Okay, maybe a bit different because of the paint but that'll be sorted. A sexy car indeed.

I for one am excited about this class, & I look forward to seeing the photos from it. Enjoy.

    Thanks for chiming in Aaryn,

I agree - this will be a class that sets the bar incredibly high.

It's challenging to get a car that actually needs wetsanding for a class. Has to do with timing...

Dang...Wish I could attend this and meet Jason!

Being in December---bunch of presents for the kids and our grandchildren plus a major trip to Calif for a family wedding right after the Holidays!

I know it's a long shot but if you can, share this with him and see what is his take on this---Post number 36 and post number 38. (Rupes Blue/blue and then switched to UHS and gray pads and finished off with white pads and Diamond ultra fine polish)

Looking for forward to the results on the MarkII...!
