How much to a dealer
Ok, so I am trying to figure out how much to charge used car dealers in my area for a specific service. I don't want to lowball what I ask, but I know dealers don't want to pay a lot.
Service is, wash, one step polish and a paint sealant. I expect it to take about 4hrs of actual work.

Don't do a separate sealant, just use an AIO. They can't tell the difference and don't care.
In my market dealers pay $100 per vehicle unless there is some sort of devastation on the inside or out. You can still make around $15-20 an hour off them if you hustle. Just remember, it's not an autogeek pleaser job. They just want to sell it. Shoot for clean, shiny, and nothing more.
If they ask for something beyond clean and shiny make sure to charge them accordingly to either dissuade them from wanting it or make sure you get paid fairly.

Dealers are going to balk at almost everything you quote them. When I get slow, I'll do some dealer work here and there. I have a set price schedule "dealer only" so they feel special. If they are kinda interested i'll show them some pics of my work and maybe I'll get them maybe not. I usually charge 25% off retail prices keeping in mind they want it to look good just to sell. No long term protection at all. Then I throw a business card in with the owners manual packet

I want my work to stand out from the hacks. I will be doing a one step and sealant.

It is your time and money. A one step and sealant vs an AIO is only discernable by a top notch detailer anyhow. Unless they are paying you top dollar you can burn yourself out with this type of work really quick.
I was all about doing top notch polish work for one dealer until one day I was dropping a car off and they were telling me how their lot wash crew just rinsed the vehicles with a pressure washer and then chamoised it dry. No actual washing or soap. Loomed at some of the cars I had worked on. Covered in swirls.
AIO all the way after that.

Read Mikes threads on PRODUCTION detailing- which is what you're doing for a stealership. ALL they want is clean and shiny- why go through the extra time, effort AND cost to you to provide something that isn't desired nor appreciated? Sure you want to do a good job but I know I don't do ANY free work unless it's on MY own vehicles!!

It's the right thing to want. But my question is......the work will stand out in your eyes, but will it stand out in the dealers eyes? Or...who's eyes do you want it to stand out in?
