Re: Foot Wear
Redwing does have a secondary brand (Worx) that has more shoe styles with steel toe, they won't be really light, but they won't make you look like a construciton worker either.
Hopefully this link is acceptable since AG doesn't sell shoes.

Re: Foot Wear
I swear by Thorogood boots. They make low rise styles in both steel and composite toe(my preference is composite), and they are hands down the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever owned. Ive worked a 20 hour day in them before, and my feet were just starting to get sore at the end. They've got waterproof ones as well, dunno if you tend to get wet while washing.
Look for the ones with the "VGS" technology. Some kind of special gel they use in the soles. The stuff definitely works
EDIT: I personally wear the #804-4445 model if you'd like to Google. Not sure what the comparable low top model is though.

Re: Foot Wear
Try being more careful would be my approach. There's no way I would wear boots or anything short of comfortable tennis shoes to work on a car. Comfort is the most important factor.

Wow, never thought of that. ;->
Kidding, but it's one of those things, sometimes no matter how careful, accidents happen. It's more comfortable to not wear a seat belt, but "being careful" isn't going to keep my face out of the windshield, right?
Some great ideas here. I ordered the Skechers, so we'll see if those will be good, either for full time wear or just for load/unload. While I'm working at the shop, running shoes will be great, just need some extra protection here and there.

Re: Foot Wear
I have a pair of Wolverine's that I wear on a daily basis. They have a steel toe and are pretty light weight. And to boot, no pun intended, they are extrmely comfortable. I have the insulated waterproof steel toe logger's. A bit pricey, but well worth it in comfort
