Cleaning trim on 2015 BMW X3
Hi there, my name is Ravi and this is my first time posting on AG.
I was hoping to get some advice from the seasoned pros on the forum on how to clean and prepare the unpainted trim (all the black stuff) on a BMW X3 for coating with Opti Coat. Now I live in sunny South Africa, so we're not fortunate enough to get DP stuff over here to clean up exterior trim. But what I do have is Meguiars heavy duty vinyl cleaner, and I was wondering if anyone out there has used this to clean up the exterior trim? Can I use this to clean up the exterior trim? Can I then go straight and apply Opti Coat on the trim? Or should I then clay and wipe down with an IPA mix before applying Opti Coat after using the Meg's vinyl cleaner?
Any thoughts/ideas are most welcome and appreciated.
Kind Regards
Ravi

We literally just finished an X3 yesterday. The gloss black trim on these is VERY soft... especially the roof rails. You can lightly polish them with a finishing polish to prep for a coating. For the plastic trim, like on the front grill, any APC that's safe for plastic should work great.

You are talking about the bare matte black plastic trim that surrounds the windows, front grill, etc correct?
Start off with an APC to to clean the plastic. DO NOT USE CLAY or IPA on bare plastic. I have not used Meguiar's M39 on these exterior plastics.

Thank you Nicholas, I will take note of your suggestions and it echoes Mikes as well about using APC on it.

Thank you Mike, much appreciate the advice, and I will go with the APC to clean and prep.
