How to correct paint on a 85 corvette.

    Hey guys

I got an existing client who picked up an 85 corvette.

I haven't checked out the car yet but from the pictures he sent me it looks mildly oxidized!

Is this a single stage paint?

If so. What should I be prepared for. I did a one-step polish on a old Volvo about a year ago that has single stage. It turned out really nice.

I guess my question is ?

    What should I expect?
Do you recommend any chemicals or products that work great on red single stage paint?
    If so what are they?
Any procedures or techniques I should read about before starting?

Please respond with any questions you have.

If it is original paint it is probably single stage. I would check this thread from Mike:http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...t=single+stage

That was my first question for him!

Is it original or a re spray. And he said original

    So I'm sure it's a single stage

    Definitely single stage paint.
GM started using BC/CC in 1987.

Good question, I'll be following along for tips and advice. Just booked a 1990 Corvette, do I'm guessing it's probably going to be BC/CC if GM switched in 87. I'm really looking forward to it! Good luck with yours OP

Well bad news. The client had to cancel. He said the reason was that he didn't like the quote I gave him

He said he will be taking it to an auto wash place to have it detailed!

I'm sure I will hear back from
Him soon after they do a piss poor job.

Probably not. If you're even going to consider the corner car wash with the kid with the buffer in the side bay your standards aren't very high. Probably should be glad you lost it. There are two kinds of people that will by an oxidized 30 year old car. First is the one that did because it was in bad condition and they could buy it cheap. They'll nickel and dime everything. Second is the one that bought it knowing it could be fixed, but usually knowing is being able to fix it yourself. Not always, but that's the customer you want because they know time is $ and understand.

Sounds like you got the first one.

    Disclaimer:
If you believe in such things as "historical facts"...then:

-The following is how history has recorded the time-line/location
of when Corvettes first received the BC/CC paint system(s).
    ________________________________________________

    •On June 1st, 1981 Corvette production begins
    in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

    •On August 1st, 1981 Corvette production ends
    in St. Louis, Missouri.

    Note:
•During the two months of simultaneous production:
-St. Louis continued to use Lacquer-based paints ("SS").
-while Bowling Green used Enamels with a Clear Coat ("BC/CC")
