All I can say is, give it shot. Doubt you'd be doing any damage to the bumper.

I do not like taking off my backing plate because the washer falls off so easily.
And It seems to be so crucial for it to stay on.
Can't I just use a regular 6" pad on my flexible backing plate and a attach a bonnet over it?
I'd imagine the answer is yes, and that probably the important key issues will be that the Bonnet fits snugly on the pad, that if it's loose that will create problems that the Bonnet won't work properly for one (will slip), and it could have a tendency to want to come off the backing pad while in use.
The degree of snugness, and maintaining snugness will then depend upon the size of the Bonnet, and also the thickness, and firmness of the backing pad.

I sold mine on ebay.
toss it
I love these pads for polishing diamond plate and metals. I have acquired a bunch of them and will miss them for metal polishing after they are all gone.
Mine tore apart the day I opened the polisher.
I decided to use mine to polish some scratches out of my hood scoop and then washed it in the sink, and had the great idea of spinning it dry with the PC, and it ripped apart. :/ <<<Newb
