Some great information, and you can't beat sonax full effect! Love the stuff.
Wow, that stuff really works!
Absolutely! :buffing:
From what I've found, the Griot's Wheel Cleaning Clay appears to be more aggressive than your typical clay. A more aggressive grade of clay is ideal for wheels because they usually get much dirtier than paint does, most of which is brake dust deposits.

how did you remove the old adhesive from the tire balancing weights ? adhesive remover or did the cleaner get it off ?
thyno
3M Adhesive Remover and a Scraperite Plastic Razor Blade works wonders for removing adhesive. Just use caution when using the adhesive remover not to get any over spray on the face of the wheel.

One thing I dont really agree on is for chrome. Chrome wheels really benefit from a good acidic cleaner not only in cleaning the wheels but also brightening the finish. Chrome is a very resilient coating so there would be no damage to the finish. Besides, most chrome wheel cleaners are already in fact acid based cleaners.
Thanks for the information. In this case, I went with safe, over sorry. Most new cars from the factory feature "chrome tech" wheels as an option, which is basically a plastic chrome hubcap placed over an aluminum wheel. The days of high quality, factory chrome wheels is heading out the door, unless you're willing to shell out big bucks for a higher end vehicle.
Although an acid based wheel cleaner may be safe and effective on chrome wheels, when it's not used properly it is more likely to damage the finish. For someone that is not educated on proper wheel cleaning (wheel being cool to the touch, necessary agitation, proper rinsing, what wheel cleaner is compatible with each wheel type) this can turn in to disaster.
Meguiar's Wheel Brightener is an acid-based cleaner that's listed as being safe on chrome wheels, when used properly of course. Most of the wheel cleaners that we sell here at Autogeek are non-acidic, easy to use, safe, and effective on all wheel finishes.
