Permeable and Impermeable - Towel Control for Ceramic Coatings

Permeable and Impermeable - Towel Control for Ceramic Coatings

    Permeable Surfaces or Materials

Permeable surfaces contain pores or openings that allow liquids and gases to pass through. These surfaces can be penetrated.

    Impermeable Surfaces or Materials

Impermeable surfaces do not permit the passage on any liquids or gases. These surfaces cannot be penetrated.

Here's a video I took that explains why you need plenty of towels and actually shows the towels I used to install the GYEON Q2 ONE Ceramic Coating. Towel control is just as important as the coating itself as it is the towel that is touching the paint as the LAST prep step before installing the coating. At this point of the process the paint surface MUST BE PERFECT to get all the maximum benefits from the ceramic coating.

You need your prep towels to do two primary things,

1: Not scratch the paint as you wipe it. article

2: Remove all trace residues to create a surgically clean surface.

I also explain the two words permeable and impermeable in this video as well as touch on why you don't coat old school single stage paints buy why you CAN install a ceramic paint coating to a MODERN single stage paint as it's a totally different animal.

Anytime you're scheduling a ceramic coating installation, no matter what the brand of the coating, it's just as important to have plenty of clean, high quality microfiber towels on hand and ready to go. The GYEON Bald Wipes have a flat weave and are stout, not limp like a lot of microfiber towels. This makes it easier to hold and control them when doing delicate work like chemically stripping scratch-sensitive clearcoat paints, (especially if you just invested HOURS doing paint correction), and also important when giving a coated panel the final wipe to remove any high spots.

When you order your towels, I'd recommend getting at least a half dozen and a dozen insures you don't run out before you're finished. There's another reason to invest in 12 dedicated coating installation towels, (per car), and that is so you can wash them together as a dedicated wash load. This avoids any risk of cross-contamination and dedicates these towels for a single purpose.

    Here's another tip...

You want enough microfiber polishing cloths to run at least a small load through your washer and dryer. Something about making a wash and dry load with only 4 items for example always seems kind of wasteful.

12 average size microfiber polishing cloths makes for a good small wash load in most washing machines.

Then immediately after they come out of the dryer inspect, fold and store them in an enclosed container.
