    Hi Mike,
I assume this is Flex's latest "Free Wheeling DA", correct? Boy, that sure looks sweet! (I might have to finally break down, and "graduate"!)

And so does that Lincoln, just a gorgeous car. And it looks like a million in the pics so far that I've seen, but I know if there's any flaws-shortcomings to be found, you'll find them, and you and the students will address them to the nines. I cannot wait to see the final pics when she's all done! Will be interesting to see what processes, products, tools, and what final LSP is chosen?

I only have one question? Why is the pad facing down where it can pick up contaminates? I never lay by Flex down that way. You know I'm kidding Mike what am I thinking. You have a whole warehouse full of new pads at your disposal.

Mike how did you like the cord? Is it the soft rubber that is easy to work with , or more like the hard yellow ones like at lowes?

I am always looking for good cords.

Finally! A 5" plate for this machine! When will these new machines ship?

I recently cut down my 6" to run the smaller 5.5" pads. Man what a difference it makes.

Let us know how it goes.

    Yes.

That's a Lake Country ThinPro 5.5" orange foam cutting pad. It's my guess that's what's going to be needed to remove the swirls and scratches out of the paint on the Lincoln.

    Ha ha...

I would place the FLEX upside down but then the words FLEX would be upside down. For what it's worth, one of my favorite tools is the Tornador Air Blowout Gun and I use it religiously to blow off that roll-around stand you see in many of my pictures. I actually scrub the mat on the stand and then blow it out as I also place microfiber towels on it. Like you see here in this article...

Love the cord. Probably the nicest extension cord I've ever used. The best investment for anyone spending money on quality tools especially when the tools start going over $300.00

Don't feel bad... you just made a GREAT investment into one of the best tools on the market. I coined the name

    The Beast

That's how I sign my FLEX how-to books and now FLEX has officially adopted this name for the tool and for a good and accurate reason... it's a BEAST!

My quote for the 3401 goes like this,

With a FLEX 3401 you can power through a detail job -Mike Phillips

And it's true. The 3401 doesn't care one bit the shape or curve of a body panel or even top cap on a boat. There's nothing you can do to stop the pad from rotating or oscillating and for this reason you can POWER THROUGH A DETAIL JOB as fast as humanly possible while still maintaining professional quality results.

Whenever I detail cars professionally, (that means for pay), I tend to use the FLEX 3401 because I simply don't have a lot of spare time anymore and I need to work as fast as I can while still putting out professional grade and even show car quality work. The FLEX is the best tool of choice in my opinion for production detailing for cars, boats and motorhomes. Fast correction without swirls.

The key of course like I alwasy harp on here in the forum world and in the real world is to always use GREAT abrasive technology. It's so important that the stuff touching the paint is the best you can obtain otherwise you'll get micro-marring when using an orbital tool and gross holograms when using a rotary buffer.
