goo gone for marring? I think you might have had some of the polymer rubber (ow whatever it is) come off onto the paint. I have this happen with the mitts just recently. If you're marring glass with this your pad must be pretty dirty.
When I'm done with my nano skin mitts, we spray with dawn water and scrub with bush. I'm probably on car #50+ish on the blue (fine), and 20-25 on the yellow (medium) and they're holding up strong.

In the end it polished out nicely with an AIO.
Supposed to use light pressure, just a little more than the weight of the machine and that's to prevent any hopping.
The exception to the rule would be some forms of contaminants have a strong bond to the paint than others and in these cases the natural inclination would be to,
Apply more pressure
Work the area longer
The results will be like what you experienced and that's marring of the paint. That's why I personally practice and recommend to plan on doing at least one machine polishing step after doing any type of decontaminating with any type of mechanical decontaminating process, (also for any chemical decontaminating process), including using an AIO also called a one-step cleaner/wax.

A person could if they switch to matching backing plate. My guess is with the smaller diameter pad you'll likely see an increase, or at least the potential for an increase in marring.
It would work better for thin panels or tight areas. Of course, a person could always fall back on detailing clay.

the backing plate on a DA power system can't be changed but i think the original one should be able to take a 4 inch nanoskin autoscrub pad.....the meguiars pad that comes with it is also 4 inch

When looking up this article for this thread,

I found I never added the link to the full write-up for this project to show AFTER we removed the overspray paint we finished the job.

Re: Removing Overspray Paint using Nanoskin Autoscrub Pads
I will have to check this stuff out, I've been using traditional clay for a while and always end up dropping it. So my clay runs out fast.
With time usually lacking, if I could save some with a machine process I'd sure be happy. Especially when I have 6 cars to clay in the family.

Absolutely, just make sure you have the correct backing plate.
3" in this case. I have several plates, makes your DA versatile.
Good luck & take care.
Peace,
