Re: Help: Stinking Crab "Juice" removal

I was worried it was in the back seat cushion. He said it is in the rear, hatch area. It is a Subaru Forester with a rubber tray in the back. Said some must have spilled off the tray, because he pulled that out first. Had to make a business trip to NYC in it.

Re: Help: Stinking Crab "Juice" removal

I had this issue with a client before.

I brought my mechanic buddy since it was under padding. I shampooed both sides of the carpet with enzyme, removed the bad padding & cleaned the floor boards. Made sure its bone dry then reassembled. Ozone treatment after. You can also use chlorine-dioxide treatment.

If its in the upholstery you can try to neutralize with an upholstery syringe using enzyme. if its really bad the client may need to consider new carpet/padding/upholstery for the effected areas.

Not fun, be sure to warn the client of all these possibilities before giving an estimate.

Thanks for the help everyone. I ended up getting enzyme type pet stain and odor remover. Went well and fairly quick. It was only in the hatch area and I was able to remove most of it to clean. There was a nice little funky puddle under the spare tire. Umm, yummy. 2 hours total, hopefully it stays smelling good.

Oh, went to the janitorial supply store.

Cases only at this one. Think 16 bottles for the enzyme cleaner.

The MPC orange solv was about the same, 2 2.25 gal for around $150

    Is there another 'store' locally?

If so, don't tell them you are a 'professional', just a clumsy car owner. Maybe, just maybe they may break down some product for you.

Another idea, hit up you local supermarket and give the custodial an asking. Good chance they have had to deal with a similar situation courtesy the meat department.

Also, the area under the rubber tray in the Subby should be a short nap kind of coating over a hard surface. That should make it a bit easier to clean off. At least compared with a nice carpeted area.

Re: Help: Stinking Crab "Juice" removal

All is still well with the smell.

There was no visible staining from this even on tan carpets so I was not sure where exactly it was. I assume it was at the very rear because this is where the rubber mat is the lowest and they live up a steep hill and driveway.

I ended up pulling all of the carpet covered plastic, foam, and spare tire from the hatch area. Layed them out in the yard in the shade and soaked them with the enzyme cleaner. I let it dwell while I cleaned the spare tire well and sprayed the wheel well cover pieces and the backs of he rear seats.

After some dwell time I agitated with a scrub brush then worked the rubber tray with 3D Orange 88 and a brush. Took a hose to the pieces that I pulled and rinsed clean. Then propped them up facing the sun in the driveway to drain while I went back to work on the inside.

Inside: More agitation, makeshift extraction with shop vac and some water, and some old towels.

When over the pulled pieces with some old towels to pickup any remaining moisture and put it back together and left it with the windows cracked.

Well, I spoke to soon. I got a text saying the smell is creeping back. Guess I'll be treating it again soon.
