    Portable air compressor

Hey guys I was thinking of purchasing a portable air compressor to use with an air gun to help clean the interior of my customers vehicles (I'm a mobile detailed). Has anyone ever tried this? Your thoughts

You'll want one that can put out at least 90psi at about 5cfm to get enough airflow to blast out under the seats, around trim, etc. We use a 33gal Husky that fits perfectly in an Econoline van. Also has wheels so can be rolled in and out of the van relatively easily if need be.

I use a 2.0 HP 15 gal ultra quiet compressor from california air tools. Its 5.3cfm @90psi. I fit it in the back of a small SUV. I load and unload it myself. A bit pricey, $500-$600 but its really quiet. You can probably get a large husky compresser twice the size for this price but works great for mobile when youre at a customers house. Mainly use it to blow out my MF pads & interiors so I dont use it for long periods of times at once. If I ever get a shop space this year I plan on buying a larger compressor. But very happy with it so far.

What size generator are you running or are you using the customers power? I tried to run my Ingersol Rand 30 gal off of my 3200 W generator using the 30 amp RV plug with a adapter.
I want a smaller compressor but the ones that are suitable for running a tornador all seem to be around the same amp ratings (15-18).
Might have to upgrade generators or go gas powered on the air compressor.

I don't have a generator. I have a power converter that I have attached to my battery.

What size power converter and are you running it off of just the one vehicle battery? Air compressors are real power hogs on start up. My generator will run both my mytee hp100 and my steamer together with no issues but can not run the air compressor.

    Lightbulb Re: Portable air compressor

I use a portable air tank, it's always in the truck. The Miata has a can of goop in the trunk at all times, forget which brand. But for something lighter/more compact, that does not consist of an aerosol can, I would take the advice above regarding brand.

You need the compressor, not necessarily the tank, and there is a wide variance in quality with

air compressors. So when someone with some experience or competence at choosing a compressor makes a recommendation, I take their advice.
