Do I need to wash my car after I use detailing clay to clay the paint?

Yes, you’re supposed to break it in before the very 1st use by claying your glass until you see most of the white liquid residue go away and turn clear. I usually break it in by claying every exterior glass window on the vehicle, that’s usually all it takes.

    Gotcha

You don't have to "break" detailing clay in by rubbing it over glass.

Breaking in is for clay substitutes like the Nanoskin Clay mitt or the Nanoskin clay towel and other brands of these polymerized rubber clay substitutes.

So knead you clay into a patty and use with a clay lube.

Re: Do I need to wash my car after I use detailing clay to clay the paint?

We clay bar vehicles during the wash process and have been doing so for years. This is more efficient then washing, chamois and then clay baring (this is for servicing retail customers). Additionally, the lubrication from the dish soap (to strip whatever protection is currently on the vehicle so to have a clean surface for new paint protection) reduces impact of creating additional swirls in the paint from the hand pressure & clay bar. We will also (if needed & more so on lighter coloured vehicles) spray iron-x (or equivalent) on the body panels to help brake down the break dust particles prior to initial spray down.
