    Proper Chemical Diluting Procedure

What is the proper chemical diluting procedure:

    1) I'm assuming this is how most people dilute their concentrates (or at least the majority I've seen.)

    -Take empty sprayer bottle
-Add their desired amount of concentrate to achieve desired dilution ratio
-Then add water. As they're filling the bottle, the mixture (depending upon the chemical of course) begins to bubble up and at this point, most people I have watched, continue to fill the bottle as so the bottle appears full
    -Then shake foamy mixture vigorously

    2) How I was told is the proper way to mix concentrates with water, according to chemistry

    -Take empty sprayer bottle
-Add specific amount(oz) of water (size of bottle minus the desired amount(oz) of concentrate to be added in next step)
-Add their desired amount of concentrate to achieve desired dilution ratio
-Then shake mixture vigorously with little to no foam

    WHAT IS THE PROPER PROCEDURE?

    The second method, hands down.

Why coat the bottle with the product and hope the water "scours" it off of the surface?

Adding water first ensures a better mixture, no question.

This is very similar to Mike P's recent "OCD MF washing method thread". Lol

    Re: Proper Chemical Diluting Procedure

There is no set correct answer as it mostly depends on the solubility of the concentrate used.

For something that is highly soluble in water it will make literally no difference.

For something that is less soluble in water, agitation especially will aid the process.

And in the case of acids, ALWAYS add the acid to the water and not vice versa. (Chem 101 - Combining acid and water produces an exothermic reaction)
