    Are SiO2 Products Any Good?

I am starting to see a lot more buzz about these "SiO2" products and also "Ceramic Spray". Griot's debuted one at SEMA.

Is it a better product than a "Sealant Spray"? Is it more durable? Does it produce more shine? More gloss? And my most important question is....can it be used as a topper over other types of products? For instance....can it be a topper over an AIO product or a carnauba wax or say a sealant like Wolfgang sealant or Rupes P808 or Sonax PNS?

I am not including a dedicated Ceramic Coating in the discussion. Just spray products and I guess Ceramic Paste.

It seems every month there is something better and more durable...blah blah blah. I'm just a DIY so unless it is a revolutionary thing I really don't need to run out and buy it. I don't want to miss out on a truly good product but by the same token I don't want to keep riding the merry go round. I'm running out of shelf space.

    Yes.

They are the real deal, at least the quality products with brand names you know and trust.

I washed my two SUVs over the weekend using the new Wolfgang Uber SiO2 Coating Wash and I'm always impressed with how well it works.

I’ve been wondering about this as well.

    •IMO:
-Anytime a few molecules of—let’s call it a:
    ‘protection ingredient’—can be infused with-
in car-care products’ formulations, the result-
ing car-care products should be better than
    they were before.
    -So I’ll say: Yes.

•But being that Silica/SiO2 is the most
abundant compound in the earth's crust...

-can someone justify, at least for my benefit:
their (extraordinary) cost increase that Manu-
facturers readily tack-on to the price tag for:
    ”all-things SiO2 infused”?

[Besides: capitalism, that is. And it’s
not any of that so-called new tech.]

    TIA.

I second that about the Wolfgang Uber Sio2 Wash. Use over CQuartz 3.0 ceramic coating on Daughters black '18 Mustang. Shines and beads like crazy.

I like to have options. Not being able go to back?

Check valves for plumbing, diodes for electric.

Me? I make enough mistakes. I want that "go back" option...........

I recall a post about how the SiO2 in these products may be patented and require royalties until 2022 or something. I’m paraphrasing terribly, the post I’m remembering made this sound somewhat possible. Doesn’t mean it’s true but ‘twas interesting. If I find it later I’ll share.

Other than that, I’m not sure if special technology or refining goes into the process. But there are some cheaper ones becoming available for the more “economically conscious” shoppers who cant help but try a nibble.

R&D, Profit, supply and demand, manufacturing costs unrelated to the cheaper raw material, Inflation, just off the top of my head.
