Stupid idea, clay bar 2.0 and wax

Thought I would use Mother's Clay Bar 2.0 with liquid wax, stupid idea. Now clay bar is gunked up with wax. Should have used liquid polish, live and learn. How can I clean the wax off of the clay bar?

One of the requirements of successfully claying
a car is to knead/fold-over the Clay many, many
times during the entire claying process. This is
how the contaminates are “hidden safely away”
    inside the Clay—leaving uncontaminated surfaces
to continue on with the claying...Repeat, ‘til done.

So your Waxy-Clay can be salvaged (?):
    Perhaps the same kneading/folding-over process
will facilitate the “relocation of the Wax” to the
    Clay’s inner-most regions.

    •No; no you shouldn’t have.

    -In fact: I don’t recommend using a
liquid polish for a Clay lube. Ever.

Why dont you just use a CLAY LUBE? lol or a Quick Detailer. Where did you ever hear/read that spray wax or especially POLISH were a good idea for claying a car?

Theoretically if you fold the clay enough you are going to end up with contaminated surface clay

As you can tell I'm a novice and live by mistakes. I'll toss this clay bar and start fresh. For those who don't know 2.0 isn't truly clay and can't be folded.

Sorry about my earlier irrelevant ramblings:
RE: Kneading/Folding-over Clay vs. Clay 2.0

    •However, IMO:
-If you’re going to Clay, then use (auto) Clay.

sometimes, not all that they’re cracked up to be:

    -Huh? OK.)

Personally: I’d want my money back.

Re: Stupid idea, clay bar 2.0 and wax

When I used it as instructed with soapy lubrication it worked. I thought I could speed up the process process by using polish as a lube. Probably would have worked but I mistakenly used liquid wax. Won't be doing that again. I posted this topic for other newbie's so they don't make the same mistake.

Well dont beat yourself up. Ivan from Optimum has videos of him claying with a clay towel and using optimum car wax as lubricant. He says you can clay and seal. Not sure if that was your intention to clay and seal but your premise wasn't terrible.

Re: Stupid idea, clay bar 2.0 and wax

If you have some glass that you are not careing for to much somewhere a window or an old car or anything else. Clay that surface use a glass cleaner as clay lube or just water. Have a lint free towel to dry the synthetic clay 2.0. So maybe you can get the wax out of it. I used Sonax Glass Cleaner as the clay lube on a synthetic clay block today to prep the back window. With the abrasions the clay has and the more rough surface glass actually has you get the surface of the clay clean from the wax quite fast. But it's useally a kind of foam between the clay and the handle that can be saturated with wax. So rinse it with warm water and not so hot water so you don't can have your hand under it. Before you use it on the glass and afterwards. And see if you get the wax out from the synthetic clay.

It's since you added the bar in the Mothers Clay 2.0 that got confuseing. As you useally mentions the clay bar as the one you folding and kneading. And the clay you have as a clay alternative and the form it comes in as clay block, clay mitt, clay towel or clay pad. It's confuseing since the clay alternatives came out so no harm.

And use what's recommended to use with the Mothers Clay 2.0 as clay lube. And here I come and recommend you to use a glass cleaner which proberly is not recommended by Mothers to use as a clay lube LOL. I use glass cleaner as clay lube on glass and also on very contaminants heavy paints too. But it's a off label use with the clay alternatives and don't suits clay bars. Since you are going to be tossing it it's no harm to try it out and see if you can get the wax out of it. Then you use a recommended clay lube when you have gotten it cleaned up again. On paints in good conditions I use dedicated claylubes as Carpro Immolube or Dodo Juice Born Slippy clay lube concentrate. Some use just the car soap solution. Don't forget to rinse off the clay alternatives as you would kneading and folding a clay bar but rinse it instead when it would be time to do this.

And polish do you meen like a polish with abrasives in it that you use on a polisher or polish as in a non abrasive protection product?
If you meened the abrasive polish I would not use that as you will be damaging your paint that way.

These are great these clay alternatives as the claying gets easier to do.

    / Tony
