New to Me 2017 Chey Equinox

    Morning all,

Well, my wife finally persuaded me to take the plunge and get her a new (to us) vehicle to replace her 2011 Ford Edge with almost 120,000 miles on it. Found a 2017 Chevy Equinox with 5,877 miles (that's right - four digits!). Even had the chance to see the first owner's name (actually a lease), and saw on facebook she actually is a little old lady. Had the car exactly 102 weeks. Drove 57 miles a week.

For lots of different reasons, the dealer considers me as "saving the car from going to auction", and along with working with the salesman who was a Boy Scout in the troop I serve, the deal is phenomenal.

Here's where this is detailing related - After an already great deal on a practically new car, we were going over the car closely, and there is a very slight scratch just below the fuel fill door. It's the only real blemish on the car. It's so slight, that depending on the hardness of the paint, it might not even require compound or a microfiber pad to buff out. But I got an extra $150.00 off for that.

Then, when I brought my wife's car up for them to verify the condition, they added $400.00 to the trade in value because of the condition. It just so happened that a few weekends ago, I had detailed and dressed her engine compartment (in her car - keep your mind out of the gutter!). When they opened the hood, they were all impressed, and said that it was obvious the car is in prime condition for a 120,000 mile car.

So my ability to keep cars looking nice just saved me $550.00! Thanks to you all for being part of that $550.00. What I know I learned here.

They don't understand whey I don't want the new car washed, even though I explained it three time. They tell me they won't, but the reality is that even if they do, I've already got at least a one step ahead of me anyway, so it's not that big a deal.

Great and congrats to the new for you car!

And nice to see when a hobby and or a little work saves some in the longrun. The car seems to be a hidden gem in that condition and low mileage.

The story I got, and reading between the lines, is they took it in on a trade from a long time customer, and because of the ultra low miles, priced it about $2,500.00 higher than it should have been, figuring someone would bite. No one did at that price, and the sales manager was too stubborn to lower it. They send cars to the wholesaler after 60 days. The owner wouldn't budge on wholesaling it, so when I contacted my guy, they lowered the price to $100.00 over what they expected to get from the wholesaler. THEN they deducted the $150.00.
