    New Wool pad prep?

So you buy a new wool pad that has never seen compound before. Should I be priming it with compound in any way before use like you would with a foam pad?

    Thanks

I always put them on my polisher, spur them really good then wash as I normally would. Then it’s ready for its first use. Washing before the first use helps with the linting typical of new wool pads.

Yep, put it on the polisher and spur it until it stops throwing fibers.

If you want, you can mist it with a squirt of a pad conditioner while its still on the machine before its first use.

    Ok thanks all.
I just thought that you'd need to apply quite a bit of compound first time. So doesn't the wool soak up the normal amount of compound used quickly on new pad? Thanks again all!

Lightly prime the face of the pad with whatever you're using. I wouldn't get the fibers wet after your done. Spur them and blow out with compressed air until the next use.

^^ this. When you're done and moving on to the next pad, just be sure to either drop the old one in a bucket of cleaning solution to soak or at the very least use a spray bottle of cleaning solution to wet it so that any caked on material is easier to remove when cleaning. Depending on the product used they can "pill up" with little blobs of product, etc. but it's not a big deal if you spray them or soak them. Just don't leave them to harden in a pile or they can be a pain to clean off.
