How do I know if an opened bottle of cancoat is still good?

Some googling says that the shelf life of an opened gyeon coating is 6-12 months. I have some cancoat that I opened and used last summer, about 8 months ago. It was stored in my garage through the heat and the freezing winter. When I shake the can now, it sounds liquid.

Is it being liquid enough, or do I have to worry about it being partially crystalized or something? If not, how can I check if it's still good or not? The bottle is solid so I can't really look at it.

When it begins to go bad first it turns into kinda a gel, then progresses to a styrofoam like glob. If its not remotely thickened or gel-like yet, I'd say still viable.

It will be harder to apply and wipe off as it begins to thicken. My first bottle went bad close to a year once opened.

I pour CanCoat into smaller 2oz spray bottles when using them. When you do it should still look very liquid-like and not be thick or difficult to buff off. It keeps a while. I have an HVAC environment for all my products and I have 2yr old bottles of older GYEON Mohs that have been opened and work just fine. The only coatings I've had go bad are the older McKee's 37 spray on ones they first came out with. It was the nature of their bottles and sprayer on it.

This is my experience too. My can wasn't around long enough to thicken into a gel, but I did find it would start to flash almost instantly when applied and it was really sticky to remove.

I find the same thing of other coatings too which have probably passed their shelf life.

Re: How do I know if an opened bottle of cancoat is still good?

i use little 2oz bottles and put about an ounce at a time in them....CanCoat goes a long way...then I wing em after I'm done

I'm using a bottle that is about a year old right now....only doing small surfaces though as I'm working on an old '99 Honda Shadow motorcycle....it's behaving the same as when i first bought it

when it's new, I put on with one mf, and spread it around quickly, it's usually still a little 'grabby' at this point...when i go at it with a second clean mf to buff it out, it takes a bit, but not much to buff it to a gloss...seems to be behaving the same as when i first got it....i used to paint, and out of habit, every time I'd put a lid back on a partial can of paint, I'd tip it upside down to fill the cracks of the lid with paint, this way, if there was a very small part of the lid that didn't seal, the paint would seal it....i do the same thing with the little metal cap on cancoat, twist it tight and turn it upside down to seal it up....I can hear it 'crack' a bit when i reopen it...garage is not climate controlled, but never gets below about 50 as it's attached and I'm out there daily in the winter with a heater
