Griots Polsher G8 vs GR3 for Novice

    Hi @Mike Phillips and everybody.

    Hope everything is Ok.

I am a novice on detailing my own cars and have a Griots G9 which i use on my 3 cars (Explorer, Nissan 350Z and Mustang 2019).

On the 3 cars there are tights spaces that i have to work manually and i am in the fence if i should get a 3" or 2" polisher as i can't use a smaller backplate on the G9. If that will be the case which one you recommend? I was thinking between the GR3 or the G8 to stay in the same line but it is not a most.

Thanks once again for your advise.

G8 for sure. The GR3 is a rotary and sure works for tight spaces but it’s not the tool I’d use for a large part of the car due to holograms. You’d need a DA to correct the holograms left behind by the rotary.

You can do more damage if not careful with a rotary than a DA polisher. I wouldn’t be scared of a smaller rotary tho. Alot of folks love the g8, I have a mini from Adam’s and gladro have a 3”. I think im gonna sell it though and upgrade to a Flex PXE. Little more expensive but its cordless and does the job of the GR3 and The G8 (rotary and dual action).

Thanks for the great information. Let me check the FLEX PXE which attracts me with the option of the cordless. Do you know of any comparison on them or any other benefit?

Haven’t seen a direct comparison of the two. The PXE can also use 1” pads. The Griots gr3 also can the g8 can’t. It is a machine that can go dual action and rotary. You switch out a part to change. Does same work as both at about the cost of both but yes the cordless is a big deal.

If you can afford the Flex it’s definitely going to be more versatile. But for the hobbyist caring for a car or two, it’s just too expensive.

Depends. Is a full size flex or Rupes worth it? If you plan on buying both a small rotary and 3” mini would cost as much..r. If you had a vehichle with tight intricate spots to get.... a 1” comes in handy.

One person may be OK with 80-90% effectiveness others may want to get to %100.

And some people buy Snap on screw drivers for $30. Value is in the eye of the beholder.
