    Griot's 6" DA burned out

I have a small part time detail business where I do 4-6 cars a week. As I was buffing a vehicle yesterday it just started slowing down and eventually the pad and plate would not move or rotate at all. I did smell a small burning scent as if the buffer was overheating. Tried switching it on again while not on the car and it would start up but the pad and plate would not move and then eventually die out again after about 10 seconds. Any ideas what may be causing this? Has it finally passed away? It is about 2 years old.

I would call Griots, it has a lifetime warranty. I always see people say they got great customer service.

Could be dead, seized, bad bearing, brushes, etc. But at 4-6 cars per week multiplied by 2.5 years. That's roughly 625 cars. That bad boy paid for itself quite a few times over. Cost of usage perhaps .25 cents per car. I'd buy a new one, but I'm sure some will suggest contacting Griot's for their warranty.

I'll chime in as someone who's gotten a (10ish year old) machine warrantied by them. Super easy, great service as mentioned.

As WaxMaster1 mentioned, given your production use of it, in my mind it falls under a consumable category. Fixing cars for a living, I spend thousands on tools each year, so the $150 for a replacement every so often doesn't seem so bad.

In your shoes, I would probably take advantage of that warranty once, then plan on buying the next one if and when you need to.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I did reach out to Griot's last night and just waiting for a call and/or email back. On the other hand I will be buying a new one and if fixable keep the old as a back up. Ugghhh...this means back to the old fashioned rotary the next couple days

Griot's Garage will take care of you with the warranty on this unit. I'd recommend adding a second polisher to your arsenal for backup. The new BOSS polishers work great!

Yep... that's a good opportunity to upgrade, but I'm sure Griots will warranty that one out. As already said, keep it as a backup.

My megs g110v2 died on me recently. Replaced the cord and everything is back and running. Like mentioned previously I'd just contact griots for warranty.

Griot's will send you a form to fill out, and ask you to ship it back. Then will either repair or replace (depending on what you ask them to do in the form). I did this once and had a new one within 10 days. Always have 2 polishers - none are bullet proof. A G15 (or G21) combined with a GG6 is a nice setup and offers redundancy.
