Griots Garage 3" / 2 or 1 inch backing plate

Is there a way to change the backing plate of our GG 3 inches into 2 or even 1 in backing plate?

For jobs that require one- and two-inch pads it may be worth one's time to look into the Flex PE-8 compact rotary or the Rupes Nano iBrid.

The Flex PE-8 is a wonderful machine and meets my expectation every time. I use it for headlight restoration, bumpers, mirror caps, "A" pillars, and anywhere else that needs precision. It's great! There's little need to ever go beyond the first speed setting of 1,300 RPM and one can achieve fantastic cutting, polishing and jeweling. Not to keep gushing, but this tool is extremely useful and I can't say enough good things about it.

The Rupes offering looks to be equally useful and even more "mobile" because it can be used without a cord. I don't have this machine, but I'm slowly warming up to the idea of using it.

Auto Geek sells both machines. The Flex has a much lower price point, but it is more than capable of handling any job you throw at it.

Thanks guys.. Yah, I am familiar with the PE-8 i actually have one and also the nano.. I also have the harbor freight 2in pneumatic sander. Was just wondering If you can change the GG 3' backing plate to a smaller one.

Try searching this forum for the 'Hernandez polisher'

Art added an extension and used 2" and I believe 1" pads on his GG3

If you have the PE8 and Nano, why fool with the Griot 3"? The Griot will stall and the Nano will get into places the Griot cannot.
If you insist on using the Griot 3" with 1" and 2" bp's, you can use an adapter that fits a 5/8" thread (rotary) to a 5/16" (dual action),
