I also bought the newest Flex, #61. Agreed that it is very smooth. Can't comment on the loudness, or lack of, due to the fact that I wear hearing protection when operating any machine. I do prefer the 3401, maybe because I have more time with that one.

To follow up, I sent my Flex XFE7 back to AG today. My 3401 had to bail it out when it started going haywire in the middle of a job.
