Re: What backing plate and pads size for flex 3401

The Hybrid Power pads came out in 5" size, and required the Lake Country interchangeable backing plate system, which included both the 4" backing plate (specifically for the 5" Hybrid Power pads), and a larger backing plate for any 6.5" pads. There were issues with the larger backing plate, and for a while, the Lake Country interchangeable backing plate system was sold with the 4" backing plate only. I'm pretty sure that the Lake Country interchangeable backing plate system is no longer being produced.

The Hybrid Power pads have gone out of production, being replaced by the Hybrid Force pads. There will still be Hybrid Power pads available for a while, as suppliers/retailers sell off existing inventory. The Hybrid Force pads come in 5.5" size, which allows them to be used with the smaller Flex 4 3/8" backing plate ( I don't know that I would call it "mini"), so no Lake Country interchangeable backing plate system is needed. I'm pretty sure that the Hybrid Force pads also come in 6.5" size, which can be used with the standard backing plate that comes with the XC3401. From all indications (I can only go by this, because I came to the party late, and have only Hybrid Force pads), the foam and construction of the Hybrid Power and Hybrid Force pads is the same, there is just the extra .5" of diameter on the smaller pads that eliminates the need for the Lake Country interchangeable backing plate system.

Re: What backing plate and pads size for flex 3401

I went to buy some more 5" pads tonight, but they don't make them any more as others have said. I bought the LC 4" plate system a few years ago. Will that work with these 5.5" pads or should I get the smaller Flex backing plate?

Kind of disappointed I can't just pick up more of the 5" pads.
    Thank you Autogeekers!
