Cord mod, Flex 3401!!!
Well, this is for you guys who bought the standard version and want to make your own HD version. Or maybe for the HD guys who don't like the idea of a 25 foot cord and need something longer, haha.
As in my Rupes 15 cable mod thread I also used a 25' 14/3 winter capable rubber cord from Princess Auto.
First, open the case, T15 torx:
Next, remove the retaining clip, T15 torx, and the grub screws, Phillips, holding the wires in place:
Cord out:
Unused ground heat shrunk for neatness:
Don't forget this gray wire that goes into the white slot:
Leads installed, with that gray wire you'll remember:
Boom, your own version of the HD 3401! Hope this helps people!
Cost: $28
Time: 15 minutes

Re: Flex 3401 cord mod!!!
Nice, simple, and to the point. Thanks for putting this tutorial together to show how to replace the cord. It sure is nice to have the longer cord.

Thanks Mike!
I haven't even used it yet and I know it's going to be awesome!

Very nice write up w/ pics. I just picked up a 100' 14/3 extension cord for my brand new Flex. Guy at the store said a 12/3 is probably what's needed. Thoughts?

Yeah, for 100' you should seriously consider the 12 gauge wire...it can transfer the current further with less "strain" also called heat.

Yes, you definitely need 12 gauge for 100', haha. Insurance.

Whoa!! Way cool!! Now I can look real smart thanks to you!! I was too scared and too much of a girly girl to attempt that!!.....LOL
Now I need to figure out the gauge wire...or better yet....maybe stick with my extension cord as I still think I will blow up the Flex!!
But the pictures you show are awesome and thanks a bunch! Whenever I grow some kahunah's I may try that. But definitely a real cool thread for the Flex!

14 gauge at 25' will be totally fine. It's not a hard thing to do, just take your time, ha.
Hopefully this inspires you to do it one day!
