What size generator is the minimum you need to run the Flex XC 3401 VRG

    Hi,
I apologize if this has been asked before. I own a Flex XC 3401 VRG and was wondering what the minimum sized generator you can use is.
I plan on running off of it (not all at once) this, a shop vac, a halogen lamp, and possibly the vapor chief 180 (or high pressure steam system). (I am waiting on the specs for the vapor machines I have asked for quotes on).

I was thinking I can get away with a 3000 watt generator, but was hoping to go for less (2000 watt?)

The reason is that I am choosing to buy higher end equipment while I run this out of back of my hatchback and generators are big heavy and awkward.

    Thank you

    Thank you
900 watts (7.5 amps) but that's with no voltage sag ("brown out").

I would not consider under 3000 watts for running power equipment. Items like that pressure steamer you mentioned are built around a 20 amp curcuit, you need 2200-2400 watts to be safe. Most generaters come with 2 ratings, the big flashy one that says 2000 watts and then the real rating in smaller font that will read something like "1675 watts continuous" You need 3000 watts to be safe.

    Thanks
I am thinking hte 3000 watt generator is the way to go. Just need to learn about generators now so may be back on another thread asking opinions, (cant aford a honda silent unless I can find one on craigslist), and hoping to stick with sears since i can get points on my sears card. hmm so inverted vs regular-- time to research...

    thanks again.

You want to use a 3000W at a minimum although a 2500 watt will work nicely. If you must use an extention cord beyond the cord that comes with the flex get an extention cord with the next lowest guage rating from the FLEX's Cord that way you will not build up resistance. As everyone is probably aware the lower the Guage of the wire the bigger the cord and the better it is for any motor driven appliance. With all that said a nice 25' 12 Guage cord should work nice for your application.

My rig is all electric and I find that 5000 watts works very well for me.
