    Need 7" polisher suggestion

I need an ok quality dual action DA 7" polisher. It'll get just DIY type use so it doesn't need to be as high in quality as say a professional would need. Been spending a lot of $$ lately on tools/equipment so I'm trying to save some here.

Hopefully there's something out there around the $100 range. Any suggestions?

edit: I've had the Harbor Freight Bauer 8mm throw polisher suggested. Any thoughts on this one or others?

Are you sure about the 7" requirement.

Most polishers come work with 5" or 6" pads. Not sure I've even seen 7" pads on the market.

As someone who owns and used a Harbor Freight polisher for many years, I say save up your money a little longer and actually get a quality polisher like the Griots G9. The quality of the tool will be much better. Moving from a HF polisher to a Griots was an eye-opening experience.

    Maybe you meant a 6" polisher.....Get a Griots G9.....don't start with a disappointing polisher

Thanks for the info Desertnate. Sorry I was wrong polisher size, but yes if 6" is the typical size then that'll do just fine.

Is there a reason the Griot's G9 is much better than the Harbor Freight Bauer 8mm throw polisher? If it's just that it's better quality and will last longer I'll probably stick with the HF, but if there are other performance upgrades I might consider the Griot's. Reason being if I can get the job done with a reasonably well made HF then that'll work for now, and I'll upgrade once I get some income coming in.

** This being the most important. The HF unit is 80 bucks. The G9 is 160.

I'd pay the extra 80 bucks for the peace of mind that if my machine ever failed (even 10 years from now) Griot's would be right there to stand behind it. JMO

Yes I see. Looks like a good looking used Grot's G9 comes up on ebay somewhat often at about $100. At only 20 more than the HF that def seems like the better deal. Only thing is the used ones don't usually come with the wrench that's included in the box. How important is that wrench, what's it used for and what kind of trouble will I run into if I get one of these used without the wrench?

The wrench is to hold the spindle for backing plate removal.

Don't sweat it. They can be purchased for about $4-5 anywhere.

Agree with all of these and I'll add one more. Ergonomics. Not only did I find the Griots polishers to be smoother, quieter, and possibly a bit more powerful, but the design of the tool itself makes it much easier to operate and more comfortable too.

When I purchased my HF polisher, the backing plate was warped and out of balance. Since the intention was to step down to a smaller, 5" backing plate I didn't bother with returning the tool, but it wasn't a great first impression. Fortunately everything else was fine and it held up over the years despite being more crude than others on the market.

When ya think about the difference of $80 between HF and Griots is nothing in the big picture.
IMO It's like a drummer using branches off a tree vs a set that was finished on a lathe for sticks ....maybe a bad analogy but you see where I'm going...lol
It is the most important tool in the box!
