PE 150 - Cordless FLEX Rotary, start-up tip

I wanted to pass along my 'learning' moment I experienced opening my new FLEX rotary!

    Steps:

Unpack the unit from the larger FLEX box, this is a way to keep damages at a minimum in shipping (mine had a hole in outer box).

    Unpack the battery charger.

Open the inner polisher box and remove the batteries.

Next dig down and pull out that new rotary!

Sorry but it does not come with a backing plate, so make sure to order your choice when you buy the unit.

Now if you already have the FLEX 18v battery in your tools (CBEAST) then you can test out the unit.
Else plug in the charger and wait 45-minutes for the first battery to reach fully charged status.

Now I took the Lake Country 4-3/4 backing plate and spun it onto the exposed shaft on the rotary. Gave a a tug and was tight.

Slapped on my other charged battery and pulled the trigger gently.

The rotary came to LIFE and DID NOT TURN the backing plate.

What is wrong now? It has been a tough weekend and now this????

    Step-1
Read the introduction section in the user manual.
Okay be a man and just skip over the 4-pages of safety do's and don'ts
Read about all the key parts in the next section of the manual.

Read about the shaft lock, #4 item.

Yep, that is the button on top of the tool that is stuck in deep in the head.
    Press it, nothing moves.
Repeat, still it will not move.
    Pull off the backing plate.
Grab a wrench, none is included in the box.
The shaft has a flat section for this problem.
GENTLY try to rotate the shaft in reverse and watch the shaft lock pin spring back to the surface.
If it returns all is going to be better. If not try pressing it or very slightly move the shaft to take the pressure off the locking pin.

Finally you have rotation! And the locking button is working as normal.
Re-insert the battery, oh did I forget to tell you never work with power tools with a live power source?
Next install the backing plate and spin it on, but now use the lock button if you need to give it a little bump (not to hard).
Squeeze the trigger to see if it will now spin, slowly bring it up to speed one.

Mine was making a bit of odd noise so made the phone connections needed to contact FLEX.

Results are the noise is slowly better, a 'normal' for a brushless rotary tool. ELSE FLEX will warranty the item.

Hope your first time using this tool is less stressful and you can skip over these points in the future.

Mine has worked flawless and it's by far my favorite tool to use.
