    Re: Flex 3401 problems

I am surprised a company such as Flex does not include a spare set of brushes in the box.

I Do think it would indeed be great if they did but I can see why they don’t. Check this thread out and do some math. The brushes do last.

    Flex 3401 died

To the OP b4 mine died, the RPMs were varying as you are seeing. I also think these machines sitting and not being used is bad as internals can rust. Perhaps taking it apart and giving it a good spray/soaking with WD40 may help the issue and push any possible moisture/rust out.

    Ok
Just replaced brushes with new ones. Old ones looked great. Still doing the same thing with the new brushes. I’d just like to try and troubleshoot so I can replace only the broken piece and not throw parts at it. Everything inside looks great from what I can see. Anyway to bypass the speed selector switch? Thanks

Might be a silly question, but since you say you bought it used, are you sure it is a genuine Flex tool and not a Chinese clone?

I'm sure there is a way to bypass the SS switch. Without looking at it in person, I couldn't tell you how though.

That said, I personally wouldn't do that for fear of damaging the tool.

Did you order the speed controller after talking to to FLEX, or just a hunch?
