Flex 3401 counterweight rusting. Is this normal?

Was just cleaning up my garage tonight since it's going to be 70º here in PA tomorrow and figured it would be a great day to detail my new 2019 RAM 1500. Just organized my polishing pads and cleaned some that looked dirty, and figured I'd take the backing plate off my 3401 and make sure all looked good since I hadn't used it since the fall. When I took the plate off, I was horrified to see that the counterweight is covered in rust! I don't remember noticing this before, and I definitely have not gotten the inside of my machine wet. Does it need to be replaced? (the counterweight that is). Picture attached....any thoughts?

Someone will be along soon to tell you Roopez’s don’t do that. Probably could clean with rust remover (remove first). Their probably not that expensive call flex customer support and see if they can’t send you a new one

I have a Rupes LHR-21 and an LHR-75e also and they clearly don’t don’t do this because the counterweight is stainless steel. But my Flex didn’t get wet and is stored in a bag in dry conditions so I’m not sure why this happened. Unless it’s normal for some reason.

You got that right! Rupes would never do that lol. Good luck with flex customer service! Believe me it's bootyFlex 3401 counterweight rusting. Is this normal? Flex 3401 counterweight rusting. Or hit it with wire wheel, coat it lightly with grease.

Its bare metal. Of course it will develop a layer of rust eventually. Remove the counterweight, remove the rust and spray it with some clear if it is that worrisome.
