flex 3401 temperature of the head unit while polishing

figured i should tidbit fun fact..

i measured the temp of the flex 3401 while polishing..

it ran mid 90'sF to high 90'sF when polishing .. and i was not rushing through the panels..

i periodically used a infrared temp measuring gun during the polishing process.

i did periodically blow out the head / body with air compressor during the day.

blowing directly onto the head unit for 1-2 minutes..would drop the temps by 6-10 degrees.. which to me seems like a practical maintenance during usage process to keep the head / tool cool . increase performance and longevity...

Thank you for the info. The biggest thing I do is oil the felt area for the head unit. IMO that helps the longevity.

I just got flex 3401 and used it for a compoung..finishing polish correction on 1 car.

I dropped mobil 1 on the felt.

I wish mine would run that cool! The last compound session I used the 3401 on speed 5-5.5 and I could hardly touch the metal shroud! Its a great tool but man does it get hot! It was 80 degrees out too, and it ran pretty much continuously.

I usually check oil on my felt ring about every other detail just to be on the safe side. Ive never had issues with my 3401

Same when using the Thick Hybrid foam pads, but it ran much cooler and easier with the flat pad.

Mine gets hotter then that, I worked on a boat recently. I went to change the backing plate and the bolt was so hot I couldn't even touch it

Mine is too hot to touch after polishing a couple of panels.
