The only problem you'll have with the Flex is you'll quickly run out of stuff to polish.

The FLEX 3401 Is a BEAST. Not only is that how I sign my how-to book but FLEX has officially adopted this name for the FLEX 3401.

Thanks for the reply! Your tips and articles have helped me out a ton, thinking I'll order your Flex DVD to get the most out of this thing

It's got more torque than any polisher I've ever used. More than speed 5 isn't really needed.

Re: Is the 3401 fine for a beginner?

Congrats on picking up a 3401.

IMO, the best pads to run with it are the Lake Country Hybrid pads. You can run the larger 6.5" pads on the factory FLEX backing plate. For the smaller 5" Hybrid pads you will need the 4" Lake Country plate.

I prefer to use the Menzerna range of polishes with this system on German paint. I have a pair of jet black BMW's. Here is an article I wrote a while back on extracting the maximum potential from this combination.

Just practice with some fine polish and finishing pads, get used to the machine for 10-15 minutes, then you'll be fine.
