My results with the Turtle wax headlight restoration kit

Tested out the Turtle was headlight restoration kit today. Have mixed emotions about it. Did just one headlight because the other headlight was still in good shape. Followed the directions, had to repeat the steps 3 times before I got a decent result. Used a polisher to apply the compound. It took me an hour on just one headlight so I probably wont be using this product again. There were a few deep scratches still present that you cannot see in this photo but because of the dramatic difference, the customer was quite happy. I wouldn't recommend using this product if your headlights are badly scratched or foggy. The only good thing about this product is the price (10$) and the compound. The compound did clear up the light foggy areas pretty quickly with the polisher.

I also have tried this kit before. And its not that great of a product.

The sanding pads did a great job of removing the old oxidized clearcoat. But I couldnt get the light finish that well. Wasnt able to remove the scratches from the first pad at all.

The sealant is garbage. It looks great when applied. Just as good as the spar urethan job I did recently to the same light. However, It washed off a week later when I washed my car.

I figure real sanding/polishing with a good sealant would probly be the best way to go for me in the future. Although my customer liked the results I'm not happy with it. Is spar urethan a good sealant?

    Check out this thread.

    Headlight restoration 50/50.

My results are in the middle of that page. But read through the first post.

You mix the spar with mineral spirits 1:1. You wipe it on after sanding the headlight. The spar has UV inhibitors and one forum member did his 2 years ago and its still looks pretty good.

Hmm.... interesting. It seems like every time I post in here, someone has a great gold nugget of information for me lol So is it any specific mineral sprits? I see a ton of them

Amazon.com: mineral spirits - Tools & Home Improvement

    and the spar
I'm a bit confused, do you use wood spar?

Yeah, thats the spar. But it needs to be the clear gloss as opposed to clear satin.

Here is the original thread that started it all.

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Go to the search bar and type in "urethane". You can pull up other threads similar to this.

This is the mineral spirits I bought.

And you need a roll of scotts blue shop towel.

Get the Helman's Clear Gloss and not the Clear Satin that you found on Amazon.
