The Aggressive Wash Videos - 1971 Duster - FB Live Videos

The Aggressive Wash Videos - 1971 Duster - FB Live Videos

I have show car detailing project today that started early this morning with what I call and teach at my classes,

The Aggressive Approach to Washing a Car

This is for getting a car super clean before putting it through a multiple step show car detailing process. Since not evernone in the forum world gets on Facebook and not everyone on Facebook gets on forums, I've created this thread to share the Facebook Live videos I took while washing this car for my forum buddies....

Here's the car AFTER the aggressive wash process.

    This car is surgically clean!

    Here's the process,

Step 1: Machine clean tires and wash wheels first using Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner, SONAX Full Effect Wheel Cleaner and an Aqua Cyclo Brush on a Griot's Garage 6" DA Polisher

Step 2: Chemically decontaminate the paint using SONAX Fallout Remover.

Step 3: Wash the car stating at the top and working down using an Autogeek Foam Gun with Gyeon Mohs Q2 Foam Soap

    Step 4: Rinse thoroughly

Step 5: Foam car a second time and mechanically decontaminate using a Griot's Fine Surface Prep Mitt

    Step 6: Rinse thoroughly

Step 7: Dry exterior using Guzzler Waffle Weave Drying Towels

    Step 8: Move car inside.

Sorry about the shakiness of the videos and clumsiness on my part. I figured you guys would rather see something than nothing as the information is more important than the quality of the actual video. Kind of a function over forum thing....

    Continued....

I shot this video after the car was washed, dry and moved inside. I'm using the SCANGRIP Sunmatch light to show you how bad the paint is...

And after taking the above picture I took this picture and that's where I'm at right now.

The roof and the trunk lid have been machine damp sanded with #3000 Mirka Abralon followed by #4000 Mirka Abralon.

Kind of hard to see on light colors like this Lemon Drop Yellow paint but that's the sanding slurry after machine sanding with the #4000

    Next up... #5000 Trizact

This was cool to watch! Thanks for doing that. I'm sure we are all overly familiar with the sights and sounds of an early morning detail job.

I've started using the aggressive wash method on a lot of the cars I see & that I'm going to polish because they're very neglected. This is hands down the best way that I've found to get to a clean and prepped surface for whatever form of paint correction you may be doing.

    ***Update***

After doing an aggressive wash to the 1971 Duster early this morning. I then proceeded to do a 3-step sanding process,

    1. Machine damp sand using Mirka Abralon #3000
    2. Machine damp sand using Mirka Abralon #4000
    3. Machine damp sand using 3M Trizact

I just did my first test spot to see what it's going to take to remove the sanding marks in one small area before buffing out the rest of the car. For this I used

    • The new tool
    • A Lake Country Orange CCS Foam Cutting Pad
    • SONAX CutMax

    Here are the results...

    This is the sanded side...

    Half & Half...

After 8 section passes using the new tool, foam cutting pad and SONAX CutMax...

Back to the garage, lots of work to do... and... looks like I have a bad florescent bulb in the overhead light that needs to be replaced.
