Re: RUPES Best Off-Season Prep Tip Contest!

When stuck in NY with winters that seem to last forever, I try to wash the car each time it gets above freezing, in an attempt to remove as much salt and sand as possible.

Yep! The perfect time to enjoy 60-70 degree weather, be able to spend HOURS working on the car (instead of rushing to avoid 110 degree heat), and calling all my relatives in snow-country to tease them about the temp.

Arizona - Like Florida without the bugs, humidity, and hurricanes.

This is a how-to article I wrote that will be very useful in keeping your car clean and shiny during the winter months:
    http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...l-washing.html

I couldn't edit my original post in that how-to thread. I wanted to add links on my own "how-to" articles regarding waterless and rinseless washing. So instead, I'll post them up here:

Cool contest! I think I'm gonna hold off on this one, I think someone else would have more use for this kit than I would. Looks like a cool kit, but I'm sure someone else could benefit from it more than I would.

Re: RUPES Best Off-Season Prep Tip Contest!

    Some tips I follow:

    1. Leave an emergency kit and some blankets in the trunk. I also keep an air pump, torque wrench and breaker bar if I need to look after my tires. I'm also registered with a local roadside assistance service if I need a tow.

    2. Apply a sealant or coating to your windows. It won't prevent the windows from freezing but it can stay cleaner longer and provides more visibility. Also top up your windshield fluid.

    3. Apply Nextzett Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pflege to your rubber weather strips. It will help prevent them from drying and cracking. Also gives UV protection from the sun.

    4. Check all your exterior lights to make sure they are working. In a snowstorm, visibility will be very low and others need to see you.

    5. Buy a scratch-free snow brush. You want to minimize any chances of putting swirls on your car but you MUST clear the roof of your car for safety reasons. A $30-$40 brush will save you polishing the roof next season.

    6. I would recommend a paint sealant or coating for winter months as they last longer than a conventional wax. I know I don't want to be out waxing in winter.

    7. Search in your area for local coin washes. You want to visit them for a quick rinse when there is too much buildup of salt and dirt on your car. When the temperature is above 0 degrees celcius, I go immediately and rinse the bottom of my car.
