Recommend a good fabric protectant
I was thinking about using Scotchgard since it's readily available at most stores. Do the fancy fabric protectants (303, Gtechniq, Chemical Guys, etc) work any better?

Re: Recommend a good fabric protectant
I've used the 303. Did I test try while the wife was driving. I just wanted to test a few drop of water from my bottle. She hit a bump right as I started to pour and needless to say more than a few drops came out. The water rolled back into the seat I was sitting and absorbed into my shorts and boxers right at the crotch. The seat remained bone dry. I was very pleased with the results (but not the wet spot in my crotch and monkey butt). Maybe next time ill treat my shorts and undies OR just trust that it works.
It does have kind of a heavy petroleum smell upon application, but its gone one cured.

Does it alter the fabric in any way?

303 is very good. Since it sits on the fabric, it can change the feel slightly. Not a big deal though.
