Re: All this talk about paint... but who's got the best Chrome Polish?
I tested a handful of metal polishes on my Injen CAI, the section below was done by hand with Optimum Metal Polish and an Orange CCS Eurofoam Pad. The thin liquid is deceiving, I found that using less product gave me better results.

Just to be sure...
Chrome? or Aluminum?
Just about any premium brand "metal" polish will work on chrome because all the product needs to do is remove any bonded road film or gunk or remove any topical rust. The chrome it coating itself is very hard and shiny to start with.
Chrome is a very thin coating. When it looks "bad" it's normally because there is some time of "substance" bonded to it staining and dulling it.
Or it's been neglected and dirt has been allowed to build-up, then attract moisture and then cause rust. In extremely neglected cases, the moisture can cause enough corrosion to cause the chrome layer to start lifting off the underlying layer of nickel.
Most fine or finishing aluminum polishes will work fine on chrome.
When I buff out a classic car with chrome bumpers or chrome trim I'll usually run the same pad and compound or polish over the chrome and it too work just fine. Safe enough for paint it certainly isn't going to harm chrome.

This works for me.
i have cleaned old chrome bumpers and old taps with this and it gives great results, just needs elbow grease. but this should be kept away from paint, it wasnt exactly targeted for use on cars. soldiers use this in our area to shine their medals

AS ALWAYS:
Use caution when attempting to polish a few millionths-inch-'thick' chromium-plating.
Some blemishes/scratches may be too 'deep'...
Perhaps already compromising the bright nickel and/or copper platings.
"Clean&Seal" often is the best bet in those circumstances...IMO.
