Mercedes SL63 drivers door



Close up down to the primer substrate


Thickness of surrounding clear/base


Prep with sanding pen and cleaning solvent


Air brush reduced color


Carefully lay a bead of 2k clear


After clear has cured level down to surrounding clear/base


Check thickness of surrounding paint


Wet sand with 2000 to entire repair area


Correct the clear to remove sanding marks


Total repair time 1hr. Total time with car 2 days including a detail

Your right, red is tough. Red has limited opacity, so thickness of red will darken as it gets thicker. However, for a scratch touch up the color looks good and from eye level it looks pretty good.
The customer wanted the least aggressive solution to this scratch without a respray also we wanted to keep the factory paint in tact. A traditional body shop repair would have been the door and rear quarter respray. At least it was not a 3 stage car that would be an even larger challenge.
