How long do waxes and sealants last?

Just curious on how long do unused and used waxes and sealants like Powerlock last? Obviously they are stored with a tight cap. I know you have to shake them every few months but is there a way to know if they aren't anymore good?

    Also stored in doors too.

Shelf life varies from product to product, depending on the invironment the products are stored in.

if you take a look at the consistency and smell of the product when you first get it and then keep an eye on it over time then you'll know if it's starting to go bad (separating, color change, etc.) or not...

I thought separation is normal on products... No?

Based upon my personal experience I think it depends on the product.

I've found that some separated products can be brought back to life by placing a 1/2" stainless steel ball bearing in the bottle and shaking as usual.

on some products like bf wet diamond paint sealant it separates (it has a thin/watery consistency) that's why you have to shake it really well before use. another one is cg's cw&g (soap), you also have to shake it well before use because half of it settles to the bottom (iirc it's the gloss agents) and needs to shaken to mix it all up. take a look at the product and see what it's like when you purchase it and continue to monitor it from there...

Re: How long do waxes and sealants last?

I have waxes and sealants that are about ten years old that are still fine. Some of them have experienced some fairly substantial temperature swings in the past before I was storing it all climate-controlled. One or two of my liquid wax products thinned out considerably from those temperature swings, but the products still perform exactly the same. I was debating throwing them out after I saw how thin they had become just because I assumed they went bad. I had nothing to lose from trying them out first and was pleasantly surprised to find that durability was exactly the same as when the product was fresh and much thicker in consistency.
