My first attempt at paint correction

I'm about to start working on my 2010 Maxima which has swirls due to using car washes and not always washing it myself. I have read a lot of post the past few weeks but now I'm just getting confused. My plan is/was to clay then use my PC7424XP with an orange hexlogic pad then move to 205 with a white hexlogic pad. Of course wax afterwards. I will be trying to do just the hood and fenders the first day. Should I not be able to finish this the first day and I've clayed the hood and fenders is it ok to just use a spray wax to the areas that were not finished? I'm I going in the right direction? I apologize for asking such basic questions but everybody on this forum are always helpful and do not flame people for asking questions.

    Frank

If you don't get to finish, a spray wax would be fine.

Sure, sounds like your headed in the right direction. Do a test spot with your products first. Keep your pads clean, don't over saturate with polish/compound, and keep an eye on the temperature of the pad.

Good luck! Take your time and have fun.

    What compound are you using?

Why not go out and try the 205 with white pad first for practice. Do the trunk and a rear quarter panel to get a feel for the machine and process. If you feel good about it proceed with the original plan.Have fun!

This is a great idea too.

There have been times when doing family vehicles where I clayed, and spray waxed until I had time to polish too.

You might find that you hit your stride, and knock the whole thing out.

Thanks for the info. I will do a test spot. I was planning to use Meg 105 with an orange pad but thought I might try Meg 205 with a white pad first (less aggressive). I'm hoping to have fun!

I thought about starting with the 205 first since it was the less aggressive. It might be better if I do start with the trunk. The hood is fairly big. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't think about just claying and spray waxing first.
