    Wheel Shmegma

Got these wheels on a 5th wheel project. Wondering if anyone knows what might have happened to them and how it might be corrected. My gut says they had some sort of clearcoat and someone may have used some sort of solvent to "clean" them.

Looks like the clear coat is damaged. You have limited options.

Could have been from too strong of cleaning chemicals, or someone cleaned them too aggressively with the wrong brush.

clearcoat crazing, needs refinishing salty air will accelerate damage.

Any "production" style remedies? He's not looking for a show car finish, just wants to clean the rig up and protect its future.
I think he's realized that the guy he was paying $80 for a 35 footer wasn't such a good deal.

As far as the wheels, there is no detail product that will conceal that.clean them up and apply some collinite fleet wax.

Boy, that was a really unfortunate thread title.

Not to hijack this thread but how could this situation be avoided? I have a new car that has some clear coating over some unpainted aluminium and don't want this to start. Would keeping them clean and a good coat of sealant on them prevent this?

Maybe the pictures don't do it justice but I thought it was spot on!
