Best product to keep wheels clean the longest?

    Hi all,

The cars in my family accumulate a lot of brake dust (even washing every 1-2 weeks). I'm looking at some kind of wheel protectant that has good durability. I've tried Meg's #21 that I have but it doesn't seem to work well on wheels (I mostly have clear coated wheels on my cars). I have some CQuartz left over and might give that a try but curious how it stacks up to Wheel Wax or DP Wheel Glaze (Wheel Wax seems to have mixed reviews and its instructions say you don't need to clean the wheels beforehand which seems odd).

Curious to know what others use and can suggest. It would be great if there was a comprehensive comparison of each product out there. So many options with detailing these days...

It's been my experience that a coating will out perform anything else currently on the market. I just don't get the same longevity out of it that I do on the paint, even though I only use car wash soap, or a very diluted APC if they're really bad.

Still 9-12 months is better than anything else I've tried.

Thanks for the quick reply aim4squirrels!

So are you suggesting I just go with applying CQuartz to my wheels then (after proper decon with IronX and clay bar)?

I have Brembos on my ride and after a day of driving my wheels are black again. I found these wheel waxes and glazes to do nothing. However, switched to pinnacle black label wheel coating and am so happy I did. Nothing sticks and a quick hit with the power washer knocks off everything quick - no scrubbing.

Would highly recommend PBL wheel coating.

The only way is change the brake pads. Akebono are the best I know.

Decon the wheels with Iron X and then clay. Wipe the whole thing down with a 15% UP A IPA solution and let it dry off before coating. Get everything off the wheels you can before the IPA wipe.

    Thanks guys.

Anyone know how CQuartz would compare to the Pinnacle Black Label Wheel Coating that LaFawnduh suggested?

Once the wheels have been cleaned...
Spray them down with Meguiar's Brake Dust Barrier.

I would suggest Armorall wheel protectant. Here is a post by a fellow member however, he noted that while Armorall wheel protectant prevented brake dust, the wheel was no easier to clean where as the Meguiar's brake dust barrier made cleaning extremely easy.

A wheel coating is the only way to go.

I have used PBL wheel coating with excellent results. Here is a review and 6 month update I put together on the PBL wheel coating.
