Front bumper protection
So the front bumper on my wife's 2010 Acura MDX is all plastic and I am wondering about the best protection to use.
Do you recommend sealing the plastic bumper with CQuartz DLux? Hydro2? Is either better than sealing with the car sealant, say, menzerna or 4*? Has anyone used these products on their front plastic bumpers and can you share your observations?
I have sealed bumpers in the past with car sealant and have these products to try. By "better" I mean protection, ease of cleaning off bugs, etc.
Thanks,
David

Re: Front bumper protection
Any type of contaminates that would cause harm to the front clip's paint will quite easily cause similar harm to any
Sealant-LSP that's been applied to that vulnerable area.
IMO:
Paint Protection Film (PPF) would be a much better
approach to providing the type of "protection" you want.

Re: Front bumper protection
Paint damage is best addressed by Bob's recommendation i.e. a PPF product applied. For ease of washing and faster removal of bug guts etc., i use Collinite 845 over my sealant underneath for our 2 very pronounced bug seasons. I find they wash off easier with the 845 on the high impact areas (front bumper, side view mirror housings, front 1/4 of the roof).
I tend to pay attention to bugs and other things on the front after every drive and remove them quickly to avoid any prolonged dwell time on my paint. I have done way too many vehicles down here in "buggy" FL to see the damage they do when left to etch!
I agree with Bob...PPF is the best but i personally don't like the look of it. Just my opinion. My paint is perfect up front because i stay on top of it.

Re: Front bumper protection
Wish I would have put protective film on my 2011 Ford Edge when I purchased it new. At 50,000 miles it looks like I spent the majority of those miles driving through sand storms and construction sites!!!! Film is definitely the way to go on a daily driver.

Yes, Fishy, without a doubt. I have spent some time perfecting my Dr. Colorchip efforts for the chips, dings etc and PPF is the single best option.

Re: Front bumper protection
I will usually just seal with whatever I am putting on the rest of the car. Then occasionally I will add some wax (BFMS) to the front bumper, front 1/3 of the hood, and side mirrors for extra protection and easier removal of said bugs.

Re: Front bumper protection
If it is unpainted plastic I would use DLux. If it's painted I would look at a coating. The lovebugs just fell right off my CQUK coated front bumper this past lovebug season.

Re: Front bumper protection
I drive a 2003 Edge and I'm in the same boat as you. Finally decided to just have the entire bumper and the plastic molding completely redone..
The rest of the truck looks fabulous but the bumper really gets under my skin. Once done I'll seal it and then apply 2 coats of Collonite 845.
